Hop Farm Beginnings / 啤酒花農場的興衰

Once a thriving and flourishing business more than a century ago, the Squamish Valley was known for its commercial hop farming, with the Squamish Valley Hop Ranch supplying hops to the British Empire. At this time, breweries also dotted the BC landscape, but with the advent of Prohibition the number of hops farms and operating breweries dwindled. By the 1970's, only a few hop farms remained in BC, and the brewing scene was dominated by just a few large breweries.

斯闊米什(Squamish)山谷曾經在一個多世紀前有著蓬勃發展的商業活動就是啤酒花種植,也曾經是為大英帝國提供啤酒花的農場所在地. 在那個時候,啤酒工廠非常的興盛也點綴了卑詩省的景觀,但隨著政府禁止啤酒花的栽種和經營啤酒工廠,農場和工廠的數量逐漸減少. 在70年代卑詩省只剩下少數的農場仍然在種植啤酒花, 而酒廠的釀造場景由幾家大型啤酒廠所主宰.

Proudly brewing award-winning ales in Squamish for nearly 20 years, we owe much of our early success to John Mitchell. He co-pioneered North America's first modern craft brewery at Horseshoe Bay on BC's spectacular Howe Sound back in 1982, with the assistance of Frank Appleton. The pair began what has become known as the "craft brewing renaissance." Known as the "grandfather of micro-brewing in Canada," John Mitchell helped design Howe Sound Brewery in 1996, working with founders Stephen Shard, Dave Fenn and Colleen Fenn.. He worked as our very first brewer, developing all of our initial recipes. We are proud of his ongoing relationship with our brewery. Today, we continue to brew in the craft style using unfiltered 100% barley mash. Our diverse selection of flavorful, well-balanced ales is constantly growing and changing with each passing season.

約翰.米切爾(John Mitchell)在1982年就開始率先在卑詩省壯觀的馬蹄灣創造北美第一家現代工藝釀酒廠。這開始了所謂的“精釀啤酒釀造文藝復興”,也造就了今天的豪灣啤酒. 豪灣啤酒在約翰的帶領下在斯闊米什(Squamish)自豪地釀造屢獲殊榮的愛爾啤酒將近20年. 1996年約翰幫助豪灣啤酒的創始人斯蒂芬.莎德(Stephen Shard), 大衛.鋒(Dave Fenn)和科朗.鋒(Colleen Fenn)設計了豪灣啤酒的品牌. 約翰也是豪灣啤酒的第一位首席釀酒師,他開發了所有的初步食譜。豪灣也為他們與約翰持續保持密切的關係感到自豪.至今天為止我們還是堅持延續使用約翰所留下來的釀造方法,使用100%未過濾大麥醪來釀造啤酒.

豪灣啤酒系列

A refreshing, lightly hopped golden ale brewed with all-natural Fraser Valley Honey. 

這款黃金艾爾啤酒口感清爽帶有微微的啤酒花香, 在釀造的過程中釀酒師巧妙地加入卑斯省菲沙河谷附近所生產的蜂蜜來釀造, 所以在酒體上有著明顯的蜂蜜香氣以及清爽的麥香.

Howe Sound Brewing - Garibaldi Honey Pale Ale

An assertive ale that is heavily bittered and dry-hopped providing an intensive aroma and brewed using selected English and North American barley and hops. It is named for the dramatic grade 4 Devil’s Elbow rapid on the Elaho River, north of Squamish, BC, Canada

Howe Sound Brewing - Devil's Elbow IPA
這種用松刺梅釀造的美式黑麥IPA具有明亮的柑橘和芒果香氣加上令人耳目一新的松果味.將松刺梅的香氣與Simcoe和Chinook啤酒花完美結合後酒體呈現水果與樹脂松果的香氣平衡。
Howe Sound Brewing - Log Driver Juniper Rye IPA

This pumpkin ale is brewed with barley, fresh roasted pumpkin, hops, cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, star anise, water and yeast. It is one of the local seasonal favorites.

Howe Sound Brewing - Pumpkineater Imperial Pumpkin Ale

A high gravity India Pale Ale brewed with 100% barley, six varieties of hops, water and yeast. Extra barley malt nicely balances the huge volume of hops in this brew. Produced as part of the John Mitchell Series. Turn around bright eyes!

Howe Sound Brewing - Total Eclipse of the Hop

A refreshing Belgian-style wheat beer with hints of coriander and orange made with 50% wheat, 50% barley, hops, water, yeast, coriander and dried orange peel. It is named in recognition of "The Spit" - Squamish's world-class windsurfing and kiteboarding venue at the head of Howe Sound.

ABV 4.7% IBU30

Refreshing, golden pale ale with an assertive hop aroma. Brewed with Canadian two row malt, specialty malts and a blend of Cascade, Centennial and Summit hops, premium Squamish water and American Ale yeast. A delicious modern classic.
